Apple Plans to Use Podcasts For TV+

Apple has been in the streaming wars for nearly three years and is preparing a new onslaught with Apple TV+. It’s starting with podcasts.

Futuro Studios, producers of Suave; will receive development and production support from Cupertino; Bloomberg claims, citing unnamed sources.

Bloomberg’s sources believe Apple has already spent $10 million on this initiative to develop TV and film; however, adaptations of famous podcasts.

Hulu bought up ABC’s The Dropout; about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. Apple TV+ will dramatise the WeCrashed podcast about WeWork’s founder.

In June, it aired an eight-part Unabomber audio series alongside Audacy’s Pineapple Street Studios. It partnered with Campside Media for Run, Bambi, Run this year (Opens in a new window).

Apple’s rival Spotify has invested in podcasting.

In addition Apple has shown interest in stocking Apple TV Plus with original content like Ted Lasso and just secured exclusive streaming rights for Major League Soccer in 2023. Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi anticipates 20-40 million paid Apple TV Plus subscribers (Opens in a new window). This statistic doesn’t include individuals utilising the service for free with new Apple devices or promotions for T-Mobile, LG , and PS5 owners.
Apple may turn free users into paying customers by loading Apple TV Plus with enticing content once the year-long trials end.
