September’s Google Play Store system update redesigned the Wear OS Play Store. The Watch 5 Pro and Galaxy Watch 5 were debuted during Samsung’s Unpacked presentation last month. So This makeover replaces the search button with a pill.
Next to the ‘See More’ button are three app choices. Name, rating, and icon are all at one spot. Large cards for ‘Music streaming,’ ‘Watch faces,’ ‘Healthy mind & body,’ and ‘Essential watch apps’ follow ‘Recommended for you’ and ‘Now trending.’
The last section lets you explore and install apps from other devices, such your phone, with the option to launch the Play Store. Page includes ‘Settings’ and ‘Manage applications’ The former is buried for app updates.
Current design is text-heavy and boring. Promoting apps on the main feed helps increase developer and user interest in wearables. Wearable design focuses on showing most content in one view rather than in multiple menus.
Moreover, Google Play Store for Wear OS version 31.2.10-26 has this look. The update is being rolled out server-side, so most folks won’t see it today.
