Once you sign into YouTube with your Google account, YouTube keeps a record of the videos you watch. This history is used for recommendations and promotions, even urges you to re-watch previously watched videos.

If you are looking for ways to delete search history from your devices, clearing up YouTube video history is a good place to begin with.

Basic steps to delete YouTube search/watch history

Here are the basic steps to get rid of YouTube history:

1. Go to your web browser, open YouTube website and once you are logged in, tap on the three bars menu button at the top right corner.

2. Select the “History” option under Library in the sidebar.

3. You can clear videos as well as search history separately, in bulk or entirely by selecting the “Clear all Watch history” option. Then tap “Clear all Search history.”

Using Incognito mode

If you’re about to watch something that you don’t want in your search/watch history, YouTube’s android app has an incognito mode as a solution to this. You can set this up to temporarily stop YouTube from acquiring your information.

But if you have already watched the video and then turn the incognito mode on, this feature is if no help. Instead, you have to remove it from history.

For enabling this, follow these steps:

1. Open YouTube and tap your Profile picture icon in the upper right corner to pull up a menu.

2. Account drop-down will appear. Towards the bottom of the menu, select the option entitled “Turn on Incognito”. This will turn incognito mode on.

To disable this, simply go to the incognito sign at the upper right corner and choose “Turn off Incognito.”

Pause watch history

When you are using your desktop, there is no shortcut available for incognito mode. Instead, you can pause your history.

Here’s how you can enable it:

1. Go to your web browser, open YouTube website and once you are logged in, tap on the three bars menu button at the top right corner.

2. Select the “History” option under Library in the sidebar.

3. Choose “Pause Watch History > Pause”, also pause search history by selecting “Pause Search History > Pause.”

On your Android and iPhone:

Select Library > History and toggle either the “Pause Watch History” and/or the “Pause Search History” options.

1. Open YouTube and tap your profile picture icon in the upper right corner to pull up a menu.

3. A new screen will appear, from where you can choose several options to limit what information YouTube gathers.

From this option, you can change the command of YouTube to remember your searches or not. Or enable it to automatically delete watch history at regular intervals.

Additional Tip:

To keep your kid’s videos out of YouTube suggestions, you can switch them to YouTube Kids app. Searches and video recommendations in children friendly app won’t appear on your normal YouTube search/watch history.
