Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 5 could arrive in a few weeks. So far, so good.

The Surface Laptop has been among the greatest thin and light laptops for five years. Microsoft skipped 2020, but added a new device a few months later.

The Surface Laptop 4 was released in spring, a time when small hardware updates are common. Microsoft could make the gadget best in a class by improving display, performance, and battery life.

Windows Prime claims to have the Surface Laptop 5’s specs. Its style mimics Microsoft’s webpage for existing Surface products, but accuracy isn’t guaranteed. Windows Prime’s lone page has never leaked anything. Its predictions aren’t too off, though.

Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 5 will include 13.5in and 15in variants with 120Hz refresh rates. This matches Surface Pro 8 and Surface Laptop Studio. It’s likely adaptable, meaning it can react to your actions to save battery life.
Laptop 5’s battery capacity is between 53Wh and 58Wh. Depending on CPU and size, you’ll get 17.5-21 hours of battery life.

Intel’s 12th-gen i5 or i7 CPUs will be the major options, but bespoke Ryzen 6000 Series chips (Ryzen 5 or 7) will also be offered. These integrate Iris Xe and Radeon graphics.

Only a 1080p webcam (up from 720p on the Laptop 4) and Windows 11 are new. You’ll still get 8/16/32GB of RAM, SSDs from 256GB to 1TB, and a restricted range of ports – Surface Connect being the main charging method.

The leak disclosed many of the expected upgrades, but it’s unclear if the Surface Laptop 5’s design will change. Its predecessor is looking obsolete, so a Pro 8 successor would be good.

If further information or sources become available, we’ll update this article.

Surface Laptop 5 release date?

According to rumours, Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 5 will launch in October. The series’ history explains this. The Surface Laptop 4 was released in spring 2021, thus fall 2022 is the latest we’d expect an upgrade.
Plus, Microsoft had a few significant launches last October to line up with the Windows 11 launch, so it makes logical to get new devices alongside Windows 11 version 22H2 on September 20. Other Surface devices will likely follow.

Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 5: Price, Availability

The last Surface Laptop shipped in April 2021, therefore it’s time for a new one. We’re not sure if Microsoft will release a new Surface Laptop this spring or in the second half of 2022 due to a processor shortage.
The Surface Laptop 5 is expected this year. A global deployment may be lengthy due to a chip scarcity. Availability is projected to be the same as the Surface Laptop 4.

We expect the Surface Laptop 5 to be priced similarly to the Surface Laptop 4, with the entry-level model starting at $999 and the highest model costing $2,400.
