What is ProtonMail? Take a look at Gmail’s Encrypted Competition

Proton, a technology firm dedicated to protecting its customers’ personal information, has created an email service called ProtonMail. E-mail was launched in 2013 as an option for customers who want to keep their messages private.

For your convenience, we’ve compiled a list of the most important features and differences between ProtonMail and other email services. Become familiar with Gmail’s competing services and discover if it’s worth it for you, both in the free version and in the paid options.

What’s the deal with ProtonMail?

ProtonMail was developed to ensure that no one, even the firm itself, can profit from its customers’ personal information. In order to protect both incoming and outgoing data, the service uses end-to-end encryption.

This means that emails cannot be deciphered even by Proton itself, as the encryption is more better and more powerful than on other platforms.

Currently, the service offers three different pricing tiers, with two of them require a monthly fee from the customer. There are no restrictions on how many folders or labels can be created or how many messages may be received per day with the Proton Free subscription.

The intermediate plan, Mail Plus, provides up to 10 e-mail identities, 15 GB of storage, unlimited folders and bookmarks, unlimited messages, priority support, and access to Proton Calendar, the company’s own calendar service. There is a monthly rental fee of €3.99  for all of these services.

Lastly, the more comprehensive Proton Unlimited package includes 15 email identities, 500GB of storage, unlimited messages and bookmarks as well as priority support and access to Proton Calendar, Proton Drive, and Proton VPN. ‘ A monthly price of €9.99 is charged for the service.

Despite the fact that the plans differ, end-to-end encryption using Proton is a requirement for all of them.

features of ProtonMail

The functionalities of ProtonMail are fairly comparable to those of Gmail and Outlook. It is possible to read and send emails to others directly from the inbox, which may be found on the main page (with copy and with blind copy).

Automatically removed, sent, and spam-directed messages can all be found in the settings menu to the left of the page.

Messages can be organized into folders and labels, and the page layout and theme can be customized to match the preferences of the user. All of this can be done from the same menu.

Users of ProtonMail’s subscription plans, as previously mentioned, also have access to additional features such as Proton Calendar, Proton Drive, and Proton VPN, which have not been examined or tested for the purposes of the current investigation.

ProtonMail stands out from its rivals because

The primary distinction between ProtonMail and its rivals is the emphasis placed on maintaining the privacy of its users. Users who don’t want their data tracked by any platform will be the primary goal of the service, which uses end-to-end encryption to safeguard corporate email.
